My paper’s headline this morning: CDC warns bird flu could sweep planet.

“The Earth may be on the brink of a world-wide epidemic from a bird flu virus that may mutate to become as deadly and infectious as viruses that killed millions during the three influenza pandemics of the 20th century, a federal health official said yesterday.”

Should it worry me that I saw this headline as a plot inspiration rather than a call for alarm?

Maybe I’m taking Ray Bradbury’s advice too much to heart: You must stay drunk on writing so reality cannot destroy you.
