Quick check-in

Sometimes, I so love Free Will Astrology – here’s the Aries scope for this week:

“You don’t want to be the best of the best,” said Grateful Dead guitarist Jerry Garcia. “You just want to be the only one who does what you do.” That’s always good advice, but it will be especially apt for you during the next few weeks. You’re entering a phase when competing with other people will get you nowhere fast. What will get you somewhere fast is nurturing your unique talents and proclivities. Do you know exactly what they are? If you’re even a little fuzzy, make it your quest to get very clear.”

Do you agree with Jerry?

There’s a giveaway of a signed copy each of Lie With Me and Promises In The Dark over with TwiMom (aka Jen) who has a great review up today.  She says, “Not only is this book full of wonderful romance and HOT smex, but the action is suspenseful and riveting. Ms. Tyler has created an engrossing world of black ops and special missions, where the good guys are big and sexy and the bad guys are evil. I love it!”

Let’s see what else – baby boy had two teeth break through within twenty-four hours of each other – with no drama.  I am working on a blog for Romantic Times website that I’m sure they think I’ve forgotten about, but I haven’t – really!  I’m working on it now!  And I’ve got a bazillion words left to write on Night Moves.  Really, a bazillion…at least.  It would help if Kell would talk to me, the elusive bastard…

Release day for LIE WITH ME!!!

He’s here – he’s here – Cam is here!!!

LIE WITH ME / Book 1 of the Shadow Force series

Dell Books

ISBN-10: 0440245966
ISBN-13: 978-0440245964

Forced together by fate, bound together by desire.

Framed for a double murder, Delta Force operative Cameron Moore is given a new lease on life by the CIA—provided he pays them back by doing their black ops dirty work. Now Cam is ready to renegotiate their deal, and he thinks he’s found the perfect bargaining chip: Skylar Slavin, bestselling author of espionage thrillers and the daughter of the CIA man who saved him from a prison sentence.

Skylar has been living in anonymity, never suspecting that someone so dangerous—and so desirable—would plunge her into a world as treacherous as one of her spy novels. But how can Cam go through with his plan to kidnap Skylar when just the sight of her sets off an explosive attraction he’s never experienced before? And when Skylar falls prey to an even more perilous threat, this special ops soldier must call upon all his combat skills to protect the one person who can help him win his freedom—and the only woman he’s ever loved.

I did not want to put this book down once I started it..“Lie with Me” is an action-packed story filled with a well-crafted suspense plot and some hot romantic tension. I am putting future Shadow Force books on my list of “To Read” books.”

Back to work. Ish.

Thanks for the congrats, everyone!  Baby boy is doing well – he’s really happy and easy and he’s always hungry, which is a good thing.

As for the title of the post, it’s not that I haven’t been working, but I’ve definitely taken some time off because I kind of can’t stop holding this baby.  He’s addictive, you know?  But then yesterday, I finally started to feel that writing urge, the one I can’t ignore, which means writing is slowly nudging its way back into being a priority.  And now it’s become something I can’t ignore, which is a good thing.  Because really, the job has to be something I love enough to want to tear myself away from both the kids.

And I kind of missed Sydney Croft’s TEMPTING THE FIRE‘S release day!  TwinMom wrote up a great review here (thanks, TwinMom!)  It’s book 4 in the ACRO series, starring Logan and Sela…and there’s lots of Marlena in there, for those who’ve written to ask when she’s going to get her HEA!  Thanks to all the Syd readers who ran out and bought the book and continue to talk up the series – it’s so much fun for Larissa and I to write.

TAKEN BY FIRE, Syd book 6, is nearly done with revisions (and they were minor, so YAY!)…we should have a cover really soon.  Mace’s book, IN THE AIR TONIGHT, is being revised as we speak – I found out it’s got a tentitive release date of August 2011…the book that follows (aka the book I have no idea who the hero is or what it’s about) is scheduled for October 2011.  And today, I need to do a final read-thru for PROMISES IN THE DARK and then it’s done, done, done.

How’re you all doing?  Busy summer?   Reading / watching anything good?  Deadliest Catch was really hard to watch this season…

betcha think the spiders got me…

But they didn’t.  Granted, I did get stung on my back by a bee yesterday.  While sitting in bed writing.  And it’s the second time in my life I got stung on my back by a bee in bed.

What?  I can’t make this stuff up, people.

Oh, and the exterminator recommended a spider brush to me – he’s like, they sell them at Home Depot. And I’m picturing this big brush that you whack spiders to death with.

Exterminator:  You take the brush and you catch the spiders in them.  Then you take the brush outside and shake the spiders out.

Me: Wait a minute, I’m supposed to carry a live spider through the house on a brush?  Isn’t there a brush where a little man comes out of the top and smashes the spider to death?  Because that’s a brush I want.

That’s when he gave up talking spider brushes and just sprayed the windows.

Anyway, so I’ve got to finish the draft of a book by May 31st. Pray for me, because it’s going to be tight.  It’s in the, oh my god, what was I thinking, stage, right on target, right around the page count that I always want to throw the book out the window.  This is Mace’s book (no pub date yet) but I do get to keep it’s original title, IN THE AIR TONIGHT.  It fits the book perfectly so I’m thrilled my editor loves it!

Larissa and I also got a title for Sydney book 6…TAKEN BY FIRE.  Loving that one too.

Just got copy edits for PROMISES IN THE DARK, which is exciting – means the book is kind of thisclose to getting put to bed.  Can’t stop looking at the cover, either.

Okay, how AWESOME was Gray’s Anatomy last night?  I was literally hanging onto the bed every time it came back from commercial – talk about moving forward relentlessly.  It was probably my favorite episode of all time.  Real Housewives of New York was good too, but kind of sad.  Kelly needs help.  Fast.

Guest Blogging & Chat

Today and tomorrow, you can find Chris and Lore interviewing one another over with Greta and Lillie at I Don’t Want To Wait. Stop on over, join the fun and leave a comment to be eligible for the giveaway!  Because, in case you didn’t know, HOLD ON TIGHT and ECSTASY UNVEILED release on the same day – which is next Tuesday.

Tomorrow night (Friday,Jan 22nd – 8PM EST) Larissa and I will also be chatting at LIST - about Nick and Chris and Lore and SEALs and Demons and everything in between.  Come on by (registration for the forum’s quick and painless) and have fun at the chat!

I’ve been holed up in the house (well, that’s nothing new) with a sick husband.  That’s like, the most un-fun thing ever, because sick man = someone send help please.  But thanks to Z-packs, he’s much better and should be going to work tomorrow so that way I can get back to work.

I’m so turned around anyway, thanks to the holiday on Monday.  So I’m like a day behind in my mind and my watch is giving tomorrow’s date, so I’m not sure if I’m coming or going.  Seems like a good time to huddle in and continue reading StarDoc.  I’ve never read this series and Lynn pulled me in immediately.  Loving it.

TOO HOT TO HOLD release day!

Nick is in the house!

Well, he’s been in some houses for a while – and I’ve heard from one person that he’s been vacationing in Disney!  But as of today, you should be able to buy your very own copy of TOO HOT TO HOLD everywhere.  54849096

And, if you’re lucky, you’ll get to see the brothers hanging out together, the way Shannon (Dorothy?  nah, too easy) Stacey did!

TOO HOT TO HOLD, for those readers new to my site, is book 2 in my Navy SEAL trilogy.

Book 1, HARD TO HOLD, is, of course, still available – you can check out the wonderful review Stacy (aka Trelaina) wrote up.  I particularly like this quote: “They [the heroes] are flawed, and dangerous, a bit crazy even.”

And book 3, HOLD ON TIGHT, releases in a few weeks on January 26th!!!

I’ve added lots of little tidbits about Nick’s story on my site, so please go look around.  You’ll also find a nice long excerpt of HOLD ON TIGHT that went up today as well!

Hard to Hold – the soundtrack

Okay, so, I’d planned out this whole countdown to Hard to Hold (because, hello, it’s out on Tuesday!) and I have all these posts that just need to be tweaked and I was so organized and then real life reared its head.  My daughter’s got an infection in her back from the last surgery she had and it’s been 3 weeks now and we were okay and then we weren’t.  So yeah, my mind is sort of all over the place right now.

But Larissa (who is truly the most awesome friend anyone could have – I’m so lucky that I’ve made her swear to never leave me) is holding a contest for Hard to Hold’s release – it ends Saturday, so read the rules and then go forth and post to win!

And thanks to all my writing and reader friends who’ve been posting that they’re excited about the release – I haven’t been able to get around and thank all of you, but really, THANK YOU!!!

In the meantime, here’s a post I wanted to do about soundtracks.

Songs can pull me into a moment faster than anything else.  Creating soundtracks has always helped to focus me when I’m writing, especially because I’m usually working on more than one book at a time.

Certain songs end up on many different soundtracks.  For instance, It’s Been Awhile is Jake’s song, and so it shows up on both Nick and Chris’s soundtracks, since Jake is a big part of all the books.

Sometimes I’ll create mini-soundtracks – for instance, Clutch and Sarah, who are subplot characters have their own soundtrack.

The full soundtrack for HARD TO HOLD will be posted on release day.  For now, I’ve picked a few of the songs from the HARD TO HOLD soundtrack to highlight here.  All these songs can just stop me in my tracks.  They’re powerful and they yank me directly back into this story anytime I listen to them.  Sometimes, they have seemingly nothing to do with the characters at all, but something about them – the music…the voice…a certain turn of phrase and they forever become a character’s song for me.

I must’ve listened to the following four songs a million times and I’m still not sick of them.

It’s Been Awhile (Staind) – Jake’s song

And it’s been awhile
Since I could look at myself straight
And it’s been awhile since I said I’m sorry
And it’s been awhile since I’ve seen the way the candles light your face
And it’s been awhile but I can still remember just the way you taste

Breathe 2AM (Anna Nalick) – Isabelle’s song

Cause you can’t jump the track, we’re like cars on a cable,
And life’s like an hourglass, glued to the table.
No one can find the rewind button, boys,
So cradle your head in your hands,
And breathe… just breathe,
Oh breathe, just breathe
There’s a light at each end of this tunnel,
You shout ’cause you’re just as far in as you’ll ever be out
And these mistakes you’ve made, you’ll just make them again
If you only try turning around.

Up To The Mountain (Patti Griffin) – Jake / Isabelle together

Some days I look down
Afraid I will fall
And though the sun shines
I see nothing at all
Then I hear your sweet voice, oh
Oh, come and then go, come and then go
Telling me softly
You love me so

Fast Car (Traci Chapman) – Clutch & Sarah

You got a fast car
But is it fast enough so we can fly away
We gotta make a decision
We leave tonight or live and die this way
I remember we were driving driving in your car
The speed so fast I felt like I was drunk
City lights lay out before us
And your arm felt nice wrapped ’round my shoulder
And I had a feeling that I belonged
And I had a feeling I could be someone, be someone, be someone

So, tell me, do you have any favorite songs that evoke favorite memories?

Do you have any songs that remind you of your favorite characters?

If you write, do you use a soundtrack?

Feel free to give me a few lines from your favorite song or songs!

New review for HARD TO HOLD

The wonderful Lea from Closetwriter has written a great review for HARD TO HOLD!

Here are a few snippets from her review:

What I loved about this story is not only the characters, which are well developed, and complex, but also the progression of the relationship between Izzie and Jake. Their emotional connection grows over the course of the story and is believable.

The climax to Isabelle and Jake’s story is heart in the mouth riveting. Ms. Tyler infused a number of plot twists and turns, and surprises into the narrative.

The best way I can describe “Hard To Hold”, is a total RUSH. I read this book over the span of 2 days and could barely put it down. I can say without hesitation that “Hard To Hold”, will be one of my favorite reads of this year. If you enjoy romantic military suspense, you may like to give it a try.

Speaking of Jake, (OMG – 18 more days until release day!!!) I’m going to have some interviews and blog posts coming up in the next few weeks – I’ll note them here and on my events page.  And on L.I.S.T. (the Larissa ione / Stephanie Tyler fan forum) there will be a chat for Jake and Hard to Hold on Friday, December 11th at 8PM EST.

And now, I need to go get on track with Zane – I’ve lost the past three days because the kid had an infected suture in her back.  Her body doesn’t really like the whole, dissolvable stitch thing.  For a while there I thought we’d end up in the ER, but the antibiotics seem to be working.  Prayers are always appreciated. :)

New Reviews for Hard to Hold

I’ve gotten a couple more reviews for HARD TO HOLD and I’m quite happy with them.  There’s just something really satisfying about seeing phrases like, in-depth character study, mentioned when they talk about Jake’s book.

Starred Publishers Weekly Review

Hard to Hold Stephanie TylerDell, $7.99 (370p) ISBN 978-0-440-24434-9

Tyler (Beyond His Control) bundles thriller and romance in a very appealing package to launch a new trilogy. While working for Doctors Without Borders in Africa, Dr. Isabelle Markham is kidnapped and left for dead. After being rescued by Navy SEAL Jake Hansen, Isabelle returns stateside, working in a naval hospital and trying to put the trauma behind her. When Isabelle’s uncle, an admiral, hires Jake to guard her against future attacks, Jake and Isabelle slowly begin to reveal their innermost secrets and personal demons, and their connection intensifies into sizzling bedroom encounters. Tyler’s in-depth character study transcends the formulas of romantic suspense, making the attraction believable and real. Readers will eagerly anticipate future installments. (Dec.)

4 Stars from Romantic Times Magazine: (reviewer Annette Elton)

Get ready for two complicated characters in a dangerous and complex situation. Tyler¹s hero and heroine have some serious emotional baggage, which makes it all the more engaging to watch them learn to trust one another. While this has a military plot, which is quite dark at times, it’s better than other military romances because the focus is on the romance and the mystery surrounding the characters, not operations and jargon. Tyler kicks romantic suspense up a notch with this one.

Okay, back to work on Zane’s book now.  Because it’s really not writing itself…

Mammoth Book of Special Ops

Sydney Croft has a story in the upcoming Mammoth Book of Special Ops – this is the British cover – they usually change it for the US version.  The short story is called, Code Word: Storm, and it’s about Annika and Creed!  It takes place between ACRO books 1 & 2 in the timeline.

THE MAMMOTH BOOK OF SPECIAL OPS ROMANCE

Trisha Telep

23 passionate stories of hard-hitting love

Stirring romance featuring the heroes of the Navy SEALs, Delta Force, Air Force Pararescue, the Green Berets, the Army Rangers and other special forces: men and women who live and fight in extreme danger to preserve our freedoms, defenders and protectors of all we hold dear.

This collection includes the work of bestselling romance writers such as Shannon K. Butcher and Stephanie Tyler and Larissa Ione, writing as Sydney Croft. Sydney Croft’s special forces couple, Annika and Creed, work for the Agency for Covert Rare Operatives (ACRO), all of whose members have special powers, while Shannon K. Butcher’s hero is an ex-Navy SEAL. But these fighting men and women have a gentler, protective side; hard-edged weapons when on active duty, they can be caring lovers, of special forces teammates or the civilians they protect
