time won’t give me time…

and time makes lovers feel, like they’ve got something real, but you and me we know we’ve got nothin’ but time…oh, sorry, having a Boy George 80′s moment.  I still love that song.

Anyway, here’s the deal – I want my cube clock back.

Seriously, I’m pretty good with new technology.  I switched from a PC to a Mac without much issue, I’ve installed software and moved from a Blackberry to a PalmPre with few difficulties.  I can work a remote, set my DVR.

I haven’t been able to work an alarm clock since my Sony cube.  I’ve had that cube since before college.  Which, was a while ago.  Quite a while ago, and I can’t believe it’s still working.

See, it was on my side of the bed until Zoo and I had to switch sides for the kid.  And then since I was staying home and he was the only one going out to work, the clock stayed on his side.  And then I bought a new clock.  A big, shiny new clock that I didn’t know how to set.

Zoo set it for me and it took me the better part of six months to realize he’d set it to a Spanish radio station.  I couldn’t understand any of the songs when I woke up but I’m not a morning person and just assumed that I was really tired.

I have four new clocks – four perfectly good clocks and I can’t work any of them.  So, last week, I bought a new Sony cube.  I figured – it’s the cube!  Probably as easy as my old cube…a perfect solution.

I still can’t work it.

I know you’re saying to yourself, why doesn’t she just give him the new clock and take back the old clock? And I have no answer for you.  It’s not like the clock is being held hostage or anything.

As long as I’m confessing, I might as well admit that most of the time I end up watching the commercials on the shows I’ve DVR’d because I forget they’re recorded shows.  Just me?  Yes?

  1. Indeed Stephanie,
you are not the only one to watch recorded commercials.
Do you have an iPod? I bought the iDock clock setup, easy to use. I did buy the one with 6 dimmer settings, those numbers are bright =)
    Good luck
    Catherine

    • Catherine, I have an iPod! I bought an iHome clock to dock it…couldn’t figure it out. I’m hopeless…

But I”m glad I’m not the only one who watches the commercials…

  2. Lol….I gave my parents an alarm clock that I won at a company Christmas party because I couldn’t figure out how to work the stupid thing…I ended up buying one of those with an atomic battery but with the new daylight savings extension now I have to still change time for dst but fortunately that is all….sneaky of Zoo to have set the radio to a spanish station….

  3. Stephanie, you sound like my poor Mom and DH with the clocks issue… They cannot set a clock either, or program something to record and we all in my house watch the commercials because we also forget it is recorded!!!
Anyway, you are not alone and feel good about the other techie accomplishments! :)

    • It’s true, Jackie – my only problem is when Zoo goes out of town. I’ll need wake up calls like they have in hotels..

  4. I not only do that with DVR’ed shows but with On Demand shows as well.

And always, always, always, someone walks in while I’m staring aimlessly at the commercials, waiting for the show to come back on, and makes me feel like a total idiot!

The more technology we get in the house, the more inept I feel…it’s rather depressing but, still, I just couldn’t live without my DVR!

    • That’s the worst, when other people catch you. I also never watch the channels in HD unless they only happen to be in HD. If I’m not wearing my glasses, I can’t tell the difference…

Technology is great, but really, it can be exhausting. It’s nice to unplug for a while…

  5. My Sony Cube just gave up the ghost, too. I had that thing for over 20 years. And, no I haven’t found a replacement…if I have to get up early, I just set the alarm on my cell phone.

How funny that I stumbled across you blog today of all days.

Good luck with the replacement! Maybe ebay? :-)

    • Oh, no, Shannon – you have my sony cube bites the dust sympathy!

I’ve tried with my palmpre…except that software is kind of screwed up. I have to try a total reset and then, if that doesn’t work, they’ll send me a new one. The problem is, I have to do it on the phone with them and I can’t seem to carve the hour out of my day to sit on the phone. *sighs*
