I start a new Claire Fontaine notebook (my absolute favorite kind, since they handle my favorite pen without bleeding through so I can write on both sides of the paper) about every 2 months. I always use the first page to write down the goals (short term, people, because I do prefer the whole, dreams not goals, thing. And then I write down a quote. Throughout the notebook, when I look back, I’ll always find other quotes I’ve found along the way. Some I’ve heard before, some not, but no matter what, they struck a cord with me on the date I wrote them down and they are therefore significant in some way, even if they simply brought a smile to my face.
I’m 3/4 of the way through the current notebook, but thought I’d share the ones I’d copied so far.
You must have chaos within you to give birth to a dancing star. – Nietzche
Proverb warns, ‘you should not bite the hand that feeds you. ‘ But maybe you should if it prevents you from feeding yourself. - Thomas Szasz
Books choose their authors; the act of creation is not entirely a rational and conscious one. – Salmon Rushdie
The profession of book writing makes horse racing seem like a solid, stable business. - John Steinbeck
And this one is my favorite – I think it’s Lo’s signature (from LIST) and I love it:
Live your life in such a way that when your feet hit the floor in the morning, Satan shudders and says, “Oh shit, she’s awake.’

Anything by Maxine and I also love the Satan one!
Karin – I love Maxine too
I love the Satan quote! Nietzche’s I had heard, and decided it was therefore Nietzche-ish to be full of chaos, upon which realization, I then calmed my anxiety over being chaotic. Did I cancel myself out?
Emily, you just did Nietzche proud, trust me
